Mobile App Development
Spacebar offers mobile app development in Malaysia for businesses that want an app their customers will actually use. From our offices in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, we design, build and launch iOS, Android and cross-platform apps. Then we keep them up to date.

Your customers already carry their phones everywhere. A well-made app puts your menu, booking calendar or loyalty card one tap away, so buying from you again becomes a habit. However, an app only earns its spot on a home screen when it's fast, clear and genuinely useful.
Spacebar is a digital agency with offices in Bayan Lepas, Penang and Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Our designers and developers have built delivery, booking, ordering and food-discovery apps, together with the admin tools behind them.

Before design starts, we help you decide how the app will be built. That choice affects cost, time to launch and how easily you can add features later. Here are the six options we offer, and when each one makes sense.
A native app built with Apple's own tools for iPhone and iPad. Choose it when most of your customers use iPhones, or when the app depends on the newest Apple features.
A native app for the many Android phones and tablets sold in Malaysia. It suits projects where your users are mostly on Android, or where the app needs deep access to device hardware.
Google's Flutter framework produces iOS and Android apps from a single codebase, with the same look on both. It's a strong default for business apps where budget and launch date matter.
React Native also serves both platforms from one codebase, written in JavaScript. It's a natural fit if you already run a React website, or have a JavaScript team who may look after the app later.
Apps that match customers with riders, cleaners or service staff in real time. Each side usually gets its own app, linked to one system. Choose this model for delivery, booking and home services.
A hybrid app wraps web technology (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) inside a mobile app shell. It works well for content-led apps, or when you want to reuse an existing web app quickly.
All three approaches are valid, so the right one depends on your app rather than on fashion.
Native apps are written separately for each platform. As a result, they get full access to device hardware and new operating-system features as soon as Apple or Google release them. The trade-off is two codebases to build, test and update.
Flutter and React Native let one codebase serve both iPhone and Android users. For most business apps, such as booking, ordering, loyalty and field-staff tools, this is the practical choice. It usually lowers cost and keeps both versions in step.
A hybrid app reuses web code inside an app shell. It suits content-heavy apps and simple internal tools that don't need rich animation. On the other hand, it can feel less smooth than the other options for demanding interfaces.
We recommend an approach after discovery, based on your features, your users' devices and your long-term plans.
The same building blocks apply to every app, whatever its size.
A clear list of users, features and priorities, agreed before any design or code begins.
User flows, wireframes and polished screens for every part of the app, designed for thumbs and small screens.
The app your users see, plus the database, server logic and admin dashboard that make it work.
Payment gateways, maps and navigation, chat, location tracking and third-party APIs, connected where your app needs them.
Functional and device testing, plus encryption, authentication and access controls to protect user data.
Store submission, go-live support, and then updates and fixes as operating systems and your business change.
A clear process keeps your app on scope and on budget. It also means you always know what we need from you, and what you receive at each stage.
We start with a free consultation to understand your users, your operations and the problem the app must solve. Next, we separate must-have features from those that can wait.
Our designers map each user's journey, then turn it into wireframes and high-fidelity screens. You see how the app looks and flows before development starts.
We build a minimum viable product (MVP) first: the core features that deliver value on day one. As a result, you launch sooner and learn from real users.
We test every flow on different screen sizes and operating systems. We also check permissions, error handling and security before anything goes live.
We prepare the store listings, screenshots and privacy details, then submit the app for review. If Apple or Google request changes, we handle them.
After launch, we keep the app compatible with new iOS and Android versions, fix issues and add features in planned phases.
Good apps start with good design. That's why our UI/UX design team works on every app project, so we test flows on paper before we test them in code.
You don't need to speak the language of machines. That's our job. Our developers use proven frameworks for every type of app we offer.

Flutter and React Native power our cross-platform apps, while JavaScript and React drive hybrid apps and companion web screens. Firebase can handle sign-in, real-time data and push notifications. Meanwhile, Git keeps every code change tracked and reversible.
An app rarely works alone. Most need an admin dashboard, a database and links to payment, maps or other systems. For Folo, for example, we built linked apps for customers, riders and merchants, plus an admin dashboard for daily operations.
If your project is mainly about internal systems, such as HR, inventory or cost estimation, our software development team handles that work. Selling online? Our e-commerce development team builds shopping apps, online stores and multivendor marketplaces. Similarly, our web design Penang team can build a marketing website alongside your app.
Every app is quoted individually, because scope varies so widely. These are the factors that matter most:
After a free consultation and digital audit, you receive a no-strings-attached proposal. It explains what each phase includes, so there are no surprises.
We don't stop at the screens. Admin dashboards, merchant views and sales reports are part of the build, so your team can manage the app day to day.
Customer, rider, merchant and cleaner apps that share one system are where many projects get complicated. We have built several of them.
Native, Flutter, React Native or hybrid: we recommend what suits your users and budget, and explain why, before you sign anything.
Talk through requirements face to face in Bayan Lepas or Bangsar, starting with a free consultation and digital audit.
From a food and parcel delivery platform with three linked apps to an on-demand cleaning service in Hong Kong, these projects show the range of our app work.

The cost of an app depends on how many user types it serves, which platforms it runs on and how complex its features are. A simple booking app costs far less than a delivery platform with customer, rider and merchant apps. After a free consultation, we give you an estimate based on your actual requirements.
Build time depends on the scope, the number of apps and the integrations involved. Starting with an MVP shortens the time to launch, because only the core features go into the first release. We give you a timeline estimate during the discussion phase, once we understand your requirements.
Yes. Cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter and React Native turn one codebase into both an Android app and an iPhone app. Some platform-specific work still applies, for example store rules and device permissions. However, the core of the app is written once.
You need an app when customers repeat an action often, such as ordering, booking or tracking a delivery. A website is better for being found on Google and explaining what you do. Many businesses need both, and we often build the website and app together so they share one system.
Source code ownership is written into your proposal, so you know exactly what you receive before development begins.
Yes. We prepare the listing, screenshots and privacy information, and then submit the app for review. We recommend that the developer accounts are registered in your company's name.
Yes. We provide ongoing support and updates so your app stays secure, functional and in line with your business needs. New iOS and Android versions arrive every year, so regular maintenance prevents features from breaking.
Yes. An existing app can be the starting point, as long as it is legally and technically feasible to work with. We review the current code and decide with you whether to extend it or rebuild it.
We build security in from the start, using encryption, authentication and access controls. For growth, we use strategies such as load balancing and database partitioning, so the app can handle more users and data over time.
